Gareth Davies MP spoke this afternoon with the Chief Executive of Anglian Water, Peter Simpson, regarding the condition of the local water supply during the current hot weather period.
Mr Simpson informed Gareth that, although some areas of the country are entering a period of drought, the water supply in our area remains robust. This resilience is down to the high levels of investment and planning put in place by Anglian Water over recent years into both the physical infrastructure of the network and tools such as smart meters for customers to accurately measure usage.
Whilst leakage from the pipe network remains a significant challenge to water providers, Anglian Water have one of the lowest levels of leakage in the country which is essential in helping us to conserve our water supply in this current period.
Whilst there are no plans to introduce any form of Temporary Use Ban (TUB, commonly known as a ‘hosepipe ban’), Anglian Water are asking people to continue to be sensible with how they use water.
Going into the coming weeks, Mr Simpson made clear to Gareth that as the ground continues to shift and compact as it dries, there is expected to be an increase in the number of burst pipes. Crucially, people should remain alert to the possibility of flooding from these pipes due to the inability of the dry ground to absorb excess water.
