Today Gareth Davies MP welcomed the Government Minister for Culture, Sport, Tourism and Heritage to Grantham to visit The Guildhall with the Leader of South Kesteven District Council, Cllr Kelham Cooke, and Mayor of Grantham, Cllr Dean Ward.
This comes on the back of an invitation to the Minister by the Grantham MP to visit the town after receiving significant Government funding during the COVID crisis. This included a £230,000 Cultural Recovery Grant for The Guildhall. Grantham will also be receiving £5.56m in funding to improve the High Street. Gareth took the opportunity to highlight the rich history of Grantham and as part of the tour met with Father Stuart Cradduck, at St Wulfram's Church.
Commenting on the visit Gareth Davies MP said:
"It was a real pleasure to welcome Nigel Huddleston MP to Grantham today to see for himself the rich history and heritage our town has. I have been extremely grateful to the Government for the significant funding local businesses and cultural institutions, such as The Guildhall, have received during the pandemic and so it was a good opportunity to outline how the money is being spent. The Minister was especially impressed by the magnificence of St Wulfram's church and enjoyed hearing more about various events that take place there."
Nigel Huddleston MP commented:
"Grantham is a very special town with an impressive history. I was delighted to join the local MP, Gareth Davies, today to learn more about how the Government's COVID financial support helped local organisations come through the terrible pandemic. It is right that we do all we can to assist culturally significant buildings such as The Guildhall so that they can be enjoyed and used long into the future. It was also a pleasure to visit St Wulfram's Church to hear about the plans to showcase the 1,300 year-old last relic of St Wulfram and to visit The Francis Trigge Chained Library with some remarkable books dating back to 1472. As a proud Lincolnshire yellow belly myself, I always enjoy visiting the county of my birth and I look forward to returning to Grantham again in the near future."
