Gareth Davies MP has welcomed the announcement by the Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, of an extra £5 billion boost to British defence spending, alongside the launch of the 2023 Integrated Review Refresh.
This additional funding will allow Britain to respond to the challenges created by an increasingly volatile and complex world, highlighted by the latest review.
Over the next two years, the Ministry of Defence will use this new funding to replenish British ammunition stocks and to help to fund the next phase of the AUKUS submarine programme with Australia and the United States.
The latest review confirms that the UK will continue to play a leading role in security both in Europe and out into the Atlantic, while also reaffirming the strategic tilt towards securing British interests in the Indo-Pacific.
This additional boost follows a £24 billion four-year cash uplift in defence spending in 2020 - the largest sustained uplift since the Cold War.
