Gareth Davies MP had the privilege of meeting 32 young people participating in Bourne on this years NCS programme. The NCS has been delivering programmes to Young People in England since its pilot programme back in 2009. With the support of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) it has now taken over half a million young people on the programme.
The participants in Bourne had just completed their first residential week in the Dearne Valley, involving team building activities such as abseiling, archery, canoeing and raft building plus skills building sessions. The second week focussed on developing a social action project to support the local area where the programme is hosted.
Gareth Davies MP comments: "It was fantastic to meet so many young people taking part in this years programme, coming from schools across Bourne and further afield. I enjoyed listening to how they had found the programme and the money they had raised for their charitable causes through their social action projects which engage with local residents and businesses. The participants as part of their public speaking session also debated with me on a wide range of topics from local to national issues. I would strongly encourage any young person who wants to improve their life skills to take part and sign up to next years programme."
